As expected with the farm employment being at its off season, the unemployment rate in Monterey County showed a number of 9.2 percent in December of 2005, up from a revised 6.5 percent in November of 2005. This is below the year-ago estimate of 10.3 percent.
As April approaches, and the farm employment continues back to normal production, the total unemployment rate will be lowered and continue through the agricultural growing season.  Tourism’s best months are during summer and September and October. In November, December and January, it is definitely considered “off season.” The AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am is the kickoff of many event-driven venues which are major factors for the county’s nearly $2 billion-a-year tourism industry.
