That demand is reflected in real estate prices, and buyers pay a premium for ocean views. According to the Monterey County Association of Realtors, the average price of a Carmel home during the first quarter of 2004 was $1.4 million. Pebble Beach houses averaged $1.6 million during the same time period, while homes in Carmel Valley sold for an average price of $996,000. More affordable prices were found in Salinas, where homes averaged $417,000; Seaside, where homes averaged $479,000; Marina, where homes averaged $498,000; and North Monterey County, where the average prices was $486,000.
