Chamber History During the many decades
of change since the Monterey Peninsula Chamber
of Commerce inception in 1908, our commitment to
the community has not changed, but has
strengthened and grown with each year to meet
the needs and challenges of our members, local
residents and visitors. Today, a Chamber is more
than a non-profit organization, it is a
business, and its product is its members –
enhancing their growth and the health of the
community. The Monterey Peninsula Chamber of
Commerce has now provided leadership in the
community for 100 years. Initiated in
1908 as the "Monterey" Chamber of Commerce, it
expanded in 1949 to serve the entire area
encompassing the sister cities of Carmel,
Pacific Grove, Del Rey Oaks, Marina, Seaside,
and Sand City as well as the neighboring
unincorporated areas including Big Sur, Carmel
Valley, Carmel Highlands and Pebble Beach.
Today, the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of
Commerce is close to over 1000 businesses strong
and is committed to serving the business
interests of the entire Peninsula by fostering
and strengthening economic growth, promoting the
wonders of Monterey County and serving the needs
of visitors from around the world. Our Community
faces significant challenges today and in the
years ahead, but is at the same time working
toward increased cooperative efforts and
accomplishments. The Monterey Peninsula Chamber
of Commerce is proud of our active participation
and leadership role in many of these
achievements. As the largest Chamber of Commerce
in the tri-county area, we have provided
leadership on issues, programs and business
development that have benefited our community
and our member businesses. |
