Transportation MPCC recognizes that
transportation and infrastructure is a key
component of economic vitality. Environmentally
responsible measures that enhance the ability of
residents and visitors to travel within the
region and enhance visitation to the region to
enhance the Peninsula’s economy.
The Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce
therefore supports the following:
1. Intra-regional highway and road improvement
that a) relieve automotive congestion, b)
improve safety, c) improve accessibility, d)
assure product shipment and delivery, e) enhance
air quality, and f) reduce noise. Achieving a
dedicated and sustainable revenue source for
self-help funding of transportation projects and
programs is a priority;
2. Enhanced airline service to and from the
Monterey Peninsula Airport;
3. Reduction in vehicle congestion through
development of cost-effective alternative
transportation modes that may include, but are
not limited to bicycles, van/car pools, public
transit, travel at non-peak times, taxi cabs,
shuttle services, and passenger and freight rail
services and other techniques (such as variable
work schedules and telecommuting) that promote
better and easier access to jobs, visitor
destinations and area highlights;
4. Improved and coordinated taxicab services for
visitors and residents;
5. Voluntary trip reduction plans by “large”
employers;
6. Adequate, accessible and affordable parking
within retail/commercial centers and regional
areas for employees and commuters;
7. Efforts to achieve a reasonable jobs/housing
balance in local and regional land use plans;
8. Maintenance and enhancement of a system of
scenic roads and highways through areas of
scenic beauty;
9. Continued and expanded operation of harbor
facilities.
