Coast Guard - Coast Guard Station
Monterey is primarily involved with maritime law enforcement
and search and rescue along the California Coast. The
50 men and women assigned to the Station operate four
small boats. Station Monterey also operates a Station
in Santa Cruz Harbor on weekends, during the summer
boating season and during surge requirements. Aircraft
from San Francisco and Sacramento also serve the Monterey
Bay region. The Coast Guard, unlike other branches
of the military, is under the Department of
Homeland Security in peacetime.
