Housing A balance between jobs and
quality housing is paramount to a thriving
business community. Policies that take into
account a reasonable jobs-housing balance, the
household formation rates experienced within our
communities, and seek to cure the critical
housing deficit in much of Monterey County are
encouraged and supported. More importantly, the
business community needs to promote the
construction of affordable housing that provides
a high level quality of life to the workforce
and is in close proximity to places of
employment.
To meet the challenges of providing sufficient
housing in a variety of types to serve the needs
of all residents, the Monterey Peninsula Chamber
of Commerce supports:
1. Promoting policies to stimulate affordable
housing for the workforce
2. Balanced housing (i.e., ownership and rental,
types of housing)
3. Streamlined planning and building permit
process
4. Elimination or reduction of barriers to the
production of new housing units
5. Obtaining grants to assist in financing
affordable housing
6. Policies that provide incentives to achieving
a reasonable housing balance
7. Re-examination of inclusionary housing
policies
8. Encouragement of public/private partnerships
to develop a sufficient housing supply
