The Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce recognizes that the incredible sea and landscapes inherent in the local geography are vital to the prosperity of the business community. Monterey Peninsula is blessed with a natural environment that functions as a magnet drawing in hundreds of millions of dollars in tourist spending annually.

The Chamber therefore supports:
 

1. All reasonable efforts to protect and enhance the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, including limiting of wastewater discharge by cruise ships within the Sanctuary;

2. The importance of maintaining excellent air quality in the region as a critical component of the region’s economic life;

3. Reasonable measures to ensure that growth and economic development are managed intelligently so as not to come at the risk of Monterey’s scenic natural environment.
