Economic Development The business
community recognizes the importance of a healthy
economy and the need to continue to improve the
business climate. The Monterey Peninsula Chamber
of Commerce generally supports broad economic
development that maintains the area’s quality of
life. The Chamber supports policies and
legislation that foster opportunities for
existing business to prosper and that attractive
to new business wishing to locate here.
Specifically, increased development and
continuing support of international and domestic
tourism, along with other compatible businesses
is necessary to the economic development of the
area.
The Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce
therefore supports:
1. Local legislative programs and policies to
encourage and foster new business, and the
retention and expansion of existing businesses;
2. Cooperative efforts by and with other
organizations to support and encourage the
creation of jobs as well as professional
advancement for those currently employed;
3. Efforts to promote and enhance international
and domestic trade, commerce, small business and
tourism;
4. Efforts to attract and develop new and
emerging technologies, which will create and
support new jobs;
5. Formation of economic clusters in the areas
of agriculture, education and tourism;
6. Reasonable and reduction/elimination of
paperwork and red-tape whenever and wherever
possible;
7. Small and/or disadvantaged business programs
such as grants, loans workshops and the like;
8. The continued use of redevelopment funds to
add and enhance business in the cities of the
Monterey Peninsula.
